Three Times Treatment at BPIH for Cerebral Palsy

Patient Information:

Treatment: Stereotactic brain procedure, neural growth factors injection, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

History:
The patient was first admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital in early 2013 due to delayed development in speech, cognition, and mobility after birth. The historical report described changes after treatment. After six months, on September 6th, 2013, Patient Saveliy returned for further stem cell treatment. On May 20th, 2017, he came back for the third time.

Medical Condition Before Neural Growth Factor Injection:
At admission, Patient Saveliy was alert but slow to react to the external world and had poor cooperation. His pupils were equal and round, 3.0 mm in diameter, with sluggish response to light. Eye movements were overactive. He had poor visual tracking and better response to auditory stimuli and voices, especially his mother's voice.

On admission, the patient could raise his head for only a few minutes. He could sit by himself with support but not independently. His lower limbs could be kept on the bed straightly and naturally. He began to crawl and could stand for several minutes with assistance. Patient Saveliy began to walk with assistance, able to walk 40~50 meters with help.

Medical Condition After Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery:
After the second round of stem cell therapy, the child's overall condition was good. He had quicker responses to the external world with more facial expressions compared to his admission. He became more cooperative during examinations and could say "mama" clearly. Strength in his neck and trunk increased, allowing him to raise his head independently for longer periods and sit by himself without assistance. He began to crawl independently and could stand unsupported for several minutes.

After the third round of treatment (Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery), the child's general condition was very good. He became more sensitive to surroundings and began to walk with greater strength and confidence. Now he can pronounce overlapping sounds such as "mama," etc., and his family is excited about his new improvements.

Follow-up:
On June 14th, 2017, Saveliy's mother sent a letter informing us of his improvements after discharge. Now he walks stronger with more confidence, uses his left hand more flexibly to grasp toys and eat with both hands. He has become more sensitive to the outside world, responding faster to questions and showing good light perception. Saveliy is also more friendly and active towards people and surroundings.

At the end of December 2017, Saveliy and his parents returned to BPIH to complete his fourth treatment. In March 2018, his parents visited the hospital and shared more good news with us: Currently, Saveliy can distinguish colors like red, green, and black, and he also can paint with colored pencils.

The most exciting news is that he was accepted by a local professional music school and will be able to start school in September 2019.

Over these years, BPIH's medical staff have developed a good friendship with Saveliy and his parents. We are all pleased with his continuing improvements and hope that he will receive continued support in the coming years as he begins a new chapter in his life.
